Tenside sits at the busy intersection of Northside Avenue and 10th street in Atlanta’s trendy West Midtown neighborhood. Location is everything in this industrial area, and Tenside is a quick walk from Georgia Tech University and Westside Provisions—one of the city’s most cherished shopping and dining districts. The perfect site for students, artists and young professionals, we had the opportunity to channel lofty, urban living at its best.
This property had a complex set of design criteria: we needed to meet the demands of several business and neighborhood associations, as well as the desires and expectations of the owners and the younger, contemporary audience we were appealing to. The City of Atlanta was also a huge advocate for the project and worked closely with us throughout the building process.
The many requirements of our many stakeholders influenced the design—as it needed to feel distinctly connected to the neighborhood and offer affordable, in-town housing for the local workforce. Our solution was an urban, lofty building with ground floor retail, appealing amenities and local artwork throughout.
Every building site has its challenges, especially in dense urban areas. Size, scope, regulations and demands—there are always considerations that go beyond the client or tenant needs. Tenside was no exception and it became a true design collaboration, from start to finish.
